Topical themes in biodiversity financing

One of the often-cited challenges in biodiversity conservation is financing. But publications on financing are mostly confined to specific financial mechanisms, regions and actors. Fewer attempts have been made find overall trends. Through a thematic review 64 peer-reviewed articles, covering different disciplines published since 2010, this study found three dominant themes recurring around topic financing: underfunding, inefficient funding distribution pursuit for innovative mechanisms. Estimates gap much higher than previously calculated continuously increasing given acceleration new threats. Proposals better targeting available finances advocate use priority protocols focussed objectivity efficiency. However, practice allocation does not seem follow objective indicators remains quite inconsistent with needs. This analysis shows that at core mechanisms strategic networks between governments, civil society businesses.
